June 6th marks World Pest Day 2025, a global event that highlights the essential role pest management professionals play in protecting public health, homes, and businesses around the world.
This year’s theme, “Guardians of Health: Professional Pest Management for a Safer World,” couldn’t be more timely or relevant. As communities continue to grapple with pest-related health risks—from disease-carrying mosquitoes to rodents and ticks—professional pest management is more critical than ever.
Why World Pest Day Matters
Many people think of pest control as a simple convenience. But in reality, professional pest management is a front-line defense against serious health threats. According to the Global Pest Management Coalition (GPMC), pests are responsible for spreading vector-borne diseases such as:
West Nile virus
Lyme disease
Zika virus
Chikungunya
Hantavirus
Salmonella
These illnesses can cause severe health complications—and in some cases, fatalities—especially among vulnerable populations like children and older adults.
Pest management professionals also help protect our food supply and prevent structural damage that pests can cause to homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses.
Honoring the Technicians on the Front Lines
In conjunction with World Pest Day, the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) is launching its “Tech Takeover” campaign—a social media initiative that celebrates the hard work and expertise of pest control technicians.
